I'd like to take a moment to talk about recruitment opportunities within the Police Force. I'm starting a Technology Division within the Force. The intention is to both specialize in solving crimes where technology was the main means used to commit the crime as well as use the technology available in the City to assist other divisions. If this something that you're interested, please let me know.

If you're already a member of the Police Force and would like to transfer into this area, please let me know.

Also, I'm looking for anyone in the City that has cancer. We've been working on a cure at City Solutions and we've come to the point where we need to do clinical trials on humans. Or, I guess if there are any non-humans out there who have cancer, we could treat you too. If this is something you're interested in please let me know.

A cure?

Well. I'm fairly new here, but I'm Dr. James Wilson; I'm an oncologist. I actually do have a patient here in the City... it's an extremely unusual case, but I can certainly ask if this is something she'd be interested in.

But, in any case, I'll certainly be looking forward to hearing how this goes.

Yes, a cure.

And an oncologist? That's wonderful. If you'd like to come tour our facilities and look out our research I'd love to have your input.

I would certainly be more than happy to come by and offer any input I can. I'd love to get some idea of what the trials would involve as well, of course.

Great. Any time you'd like to come by I'll be sure to make myself available to show you around and answer any questions.

The patient I mentioned is indeed interested... as I'm sure you can see.

Would it be alright if I brought her with me? I'm sure she'd appreciate being able to ask you about the trials personally.

That would be fine, you're both welcome to come.

No need to, Dr. Wilson. I'm very interested in learning more about this research.

Oh, Agent Scully. Good, that's fantastic.

I'm actually going in to see the facilities and find out about the trials this weekend; I doubt that it would be a problem if you were to come as well.

Not that I wouldn't wish you well, but you're aware that a cure for cancer is retroactive, aren't you?

You could treat particular cases, but you can't exactly keep cells from dividing without causing a different set of problems possibly much worse than cancer to begin with.

Date: 2009-02-26 03:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com
We are aware. It's not a cure in that cancer would cease to exist all over the world, but that when you come in for treatment you have cancer and when you leave you no longer have it. I would elaborate but you've been flagged as person who has the potential to misuse the research done by City Solutions and I'm not at liberty to discuss specifics.

Yes, because I could destroy the world if you tell me in generic detail about your cutting edge chemotherapy or somesuch. That's very cute of you, Mr. Stark.

From: [identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com
Flattery is always appreciated but you're still red flagged. And yes, I'm sure you don't care, etc. etc. I'm sure you have more experiments to inflict on yourself and subsequently more people to kidnap.

Because my tinkering is any worse than the tinkering that you're supporting?

Don't use my failure as a soapbox, Stark. It doesn't suit the object lesson.

Date: 2009-02-26 04:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com
Not any worse and not any better, no. Very few aspects of science are good or bad. It all depends on the people behind them.

In City Solutions we operate as a group under and Ethics Committee. Multiple people review projects and observe results. More eyes on a project to better spot the dangers before and after they happen. Your failure is exactly the sort of thing we hope to prevent. You've practically become the object lesson.

You're brilliant as a scientist and I'm glad that whatever you did to yourself was correctable or reversible but the choices you've made have shown that you're just not the type of person I would want to work with or for me nor would I trust you with research of the nature we're doing with cancer.

From: [personal profile] orderonto
What I was doing was neither good nor bad. Nor am I as a person necessarily motivated by great good or great evil. It was foolhardy and dangerous and I would not see it ever repeated again. But my failure was not one of morality.

I don't want to work for you. I'm very retired. I only wanted to make a note that the type of work you think you want to try doing is expensive, difficult, time-consuming and uncertain.

Date: 2009-02-26 04:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com
I didn't say you were a bad person, just implied you made some bad decisions and I'm glad that you've learned and sorry to hear that you're retiring, I hope you enjoy that life.

Seeing as how I'm footing the bill, I'm well aware of the cost. And the treatment we're developing has more than one use and most science is uncertain. But I guess when you get down to it I guess I just believe that saving a life is worth a few billion dollars, some late nights, and some risks.

Where in the City could you have possibly found living Sarlain?
